Client stories

Gemma taught me everything I know. I hand on heart don’t think I would’ve ever worked professionally without her expertise. Not only did I discover my technique with her (especially how to twang, that has gotten me through really hard shows), I also became a better version of myself.

— Gina

Seeing Gemma is an absolute must if you’re looking to prepare rep, work on audition material or even rebuild your voice after taking a break. Gemma has such a warm and loving approach while also having an extensive knowledge of vocal technique and the industry.

— Charles

Working with Gemma over the past few years has been an absolute game-changer for me. She is a true genius when it comes to teaching singing—warm, friendly, and incredibly compassionate. It’s so hard to find the right singing teacher as an adult post-drama school, but Gemma’s passion for her craft makes every lesson fun, engaging, and challenging in the best way. Her deep knowledge of the voice and vocal health means you feel supported every step of the way, and I always leave lessons feeling inspired and confident. I couldn’t recommend her more highly!

— Bethany

Biography

Jane Barkley Young is a multi award-winning songwriter, vocalist, and musical director based in London. Classically trained in opera and musical theatre and vocalist with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, she then went on to build a hugely successful career in commercial and pop music as both a singer and songwriter, with placements for major production companies including Netflix, Disney, Paramount, Prime Video, and mainstream brand campaigns.

Known for bringing optimism and joy into the creative process, she has built a multifaceted career by turning her musical abilities into thriving revenue streams, from writing for TV, film, and feature projects, to recording sample packs for Splice, and directing the live band Ninety Nine, who hold residencies at iconic London institutions including The Ned, Soho House, Claridge’s, and The Savoy.

During the pandemic, she founded The 52 Songs Project, a songwriting community that grew to over 120 members, where she coached writers in mindset, accountability, songwriting and vocal technique. With a passion for adapting the voice across genres while championing individuality and safe technique, she now helps others shape their own versatile paths in music and find confidence in their unique voice.
